Fatfish Steamboat Revisited!

Val treated me to Fatfish last night!
i walked up! it was only 630pm, so it was nice and bright :)

approaching Fatfish! wahaha.

We sat outside this time round, because we took the grill+steamboat option. I didn't know they have this grill option!! When I called to reserve yesterday afternoon, the manager asked me if i wanted steamboat only or steamboat+grill. I went 'got grill meh??'
FYI, my review on Fatfish steamboat alone is here.

Here's the sinful cup of butter.

and their home made chilli sauce that Val loves :)

We were just right next to the SHIP :D

nice scenic spot isnt it?

they have a side trolley to put all our raw stuff! :)
~
Having the grill option is great for variety, but bad for health! wahaha. The sound of the hot splattering butter seemed to have the power of getting people excited! But of cos, it's not wise to bring children, coz the splattering butter can go a long way, to your hands and face. Val and I were totally reeking of oily butter after the dinner. But the taste was great! Tasty! Yummy!

I wanna go AGAIN!

Located on the 2nd floor, this stall was one of the bare few that remained opened till late. Managed by an elderly couple, it was amazing that zhi char dishes can actually be prepared from this tiny stall. I mean, where can they possibly keep all the crockery and endless ingredients??
~
6 of us were there. So we ordered 4 dishes - Curry Fish Head, Sambal Crayfish, Stir-fried Kang Kong and Stir-fried Beancurd (with other ingredients). Doris and I shared a plate of rice while the rest had 1 plate each.
~
A drinks stall was open that night, just 1 stall away from this zhi char stall. $1 per can!!!!!

All dishes were customized to the number of persons eating. This is 1 huge claypot of curry fish head!

With a very fleshy and succulent fish head :)
Review - Half our reviewers found it spicy, the other half found it okay. Can I say that it's just right then? Wahaha.
The gravy wasn't the thick coconut-ty kind, but still tasty and was great for rice. The flesh was aplenty, and I had the privilege of finishing up the remains of the fish head, eyeballs and all. The eyeball was nice *winks*
The flesh was very fresh and there wasn't much fishy smell. Flesh came off the bones easily. The accompanying slices of ladyfingers were nice and gooey while the brinjal was soft and juicy. *slurps*

Stir-Fried beancurd.

i noticed in the above picture that there was egg yolk all over the dish. That's something new, coz usually there isn't.
Review - this dish was expectedly good. Not a WOW. I mean, how WOW do you want this dish to go?
The ingredients were all fresh. Broccoli was crunchy, beancurd was slightly charred (which was swell), and there were sotong, fresh prawns and thick fish slices.
~
Now, I am purely reviewing the food alone. When we all knew the price that we had to pay, we decided that every freaking dish we had was a WOW, because it was too cheap to be true!

Sambal crayfish

I was expecting proper crayfish in their shells. Hahaha. But i guess this is more friendly :)
Review - the flesh was very very very succulent. Not the kind where those restaurants put a chemical to fake the crunchiness, but this was really the natural freshness. I loved the thick slices of onions too!
The rest of the reviewers - everyone was just going 'Good! This is good! Very nice!' What more can I say?

Stir-fried Kang Kong.

a side track - when i saw this pic, i was thinking 'Man, I think an European will be astonished to see this kind of serving style!' Europeans are generally used to smaller individual portions, not this messy orgy of kang kong on a huge plate. ha.
Review - one of the best. It was totally devoured by the 6 of us. The level of spiciness was not as potent, hence no one complained heehee. The kang kong was very tender and fresh. Adrian is one picky vegetable eater and he praised this dish!

Hor fun that Jeff had (not full enuf?) According to Jeff, he didnt find this impressive, just passable. But Doris was the one who recommended this to Jeff coz she adores it. I love the chao da hor fun look though :)

This was the price per pax! I simply had to take a pic of this! This has to be the cheapest zhi char dinner I had!
Another WOW thing you must know - I ordered the sambal crayfish and kang kong to take away. The auntie asked me how many people was that for. I said 2, and she said she would prepare the dishes for 2 persons. Isn't it wonderful that they are able to customize? That's really so WOW. and the price was even more WOW. $11. ELEVEN BUCKS.

We were happy and we simply had to take a pic with the empty plates :)

Tada! heehee.
~
This stall opens till 930pm in CBD area, so expect little crowd and prompt service. The auntie understands English and she is one quiet but friendly lady. Uncle stays inside the stall busy cooking. Oh, the rice is not the softie type, but very well-defined and is fantastic with the curry gravy!
~
This is a great place for cheap zhi char and catching up with friends. You can sit for as long as you wish, have endless drinks (since they are $1 per can wahaha) while catching up. 2nd floor is deserted during the evenings, so you can even hold informal discussions there!
~
Thumbs up!!!
