Amk S11 Pig Organ Stall's Mei Cai Kou Rou

Went to AMK S11 (the huge one) with my family last weekend. It was 7pm, and the alfresco area still had quite a few empty tables. I ordered this Mei Cai Kou Rou from the Pig Organ Soup Stall, along with Pig Organ Soup and a bowl of rice. I asked the lady to pour some gravy over the white rice, coz my girl was going to have the rice and she LOVES gravy haha. Service was okay, no complaints, just the usual flustered look haha.
~
The Mei Cai was not so salty, but very tasty and exactly the standard I like. Very homey taste :o) The pork belly was a teeny bit tough, people who prefer the nua nua pork belly probably will not like it. Cos as u can see, the pieces of pork belly were cut quite thickly, hence the level of nua-ness will definitely be affected. But I was okay with it, coz I like the THICK PIECE OF FAT :P

Most of us met together at Farrer Park MRT and walked over together. Thanks to Jonathan, we managed to get to Swee Choon via a short cut near Mustafa Centre. The rest of us had absolutely no idea where Jonathan was bringing us and we just tagged along, while swallowing down the interesting sights along the small road beside Mustafa Centre. We felt like tourists!
Upon entering Swee Choon, we were supremely grateful for the strong air-conditioning coz the heat was just too overwhelming out there. There was not much decor, just very simple furniture and somewhat cramped layout.
Their opening hours are.. unique.

Carl, with his broken fingers, cheerfully washed the cups for us :)

Wiki assisted with pouring the chrysanthemum tea, which tasted rather bland.

I got busy cam-whoring with Karen ahahah. Ah, my long hair.

Jonathan, who frequents Swee Choon, started filling up the order form. the HUGE order form.
I had a quick glance at the menu and was sad that they don't sell Nai Huang Bao :(

The food arrived quite quickly, but due to the strong air-conditioning (plus a ceiling fan above us), they turned cold quickly too :S
This is the chee cheong fun, which tasted normal. Well, how special can it get right..

Char Siew Sou - I managed to eat it while hot, and it was good. Of coz it cannot be compared to the one at Imperial Treasure (Changi Airport) ahahha. Karen also gave this a thumbs-up!

I really ought to buy a DSLR.

Hor fun - it was above average, but a couple of us commented that it was cooked too long, hence not as nice. I prefer chau-ta hor fun, and this was not. haha.

Taken using Wiki's camera. Better colours, but somehow the picture looked distorted. Maybe it's my skills :S

Siew Mai. 1 order = 2 units, I wonder why. Anyway, the siew mai was average, definitely not the best I have tasted.

using Wiki's camera.

Chilli dumplings. Many of us liked it, especially Wiki. It was really quite spicy!! And the colours are nice :)

Closer look.

Hmm, further look :P Oh, see that har gau in the small metal bowl? hahaha I tink that was the only picture i took of the har gau! - The skin was thick, but prawns were fresh.

Spicy La-mian. It was SPICY. The Ma-la kind of spicy.

Closer look wahahah. I liked the minced meat.

Carl's beef noodles. A disappointment, coz the beef was very tough.
Big round table with lots of food!
Siao Long Bao - I did not manage to eat this, but comments were that they were good, with lots of soup inside :)
Okay this is apparently one of the specialties, called the mee sua kueh. It's made of mee sua, obviously. Interesting.
Close-up. I think it tasted bland, but pardon me, my taste buds love salty food. The rest (Doris, Jonathan in particular) love this!
You still can see the mee sua! Oh, Claudia commented that it wasn't salty enuff too hehe.
Fried wanton. Normal, wait till you taste the Old Airport ones! Review coming up soon ahhaha.

Peking Dumpling - The skin was sooo thick :(, but they were juicy.

See, you cannot even see what's inside hor.
More food ahhaha.
Carl and Wiki :)
My note pad. I dun remembering taking this pic.

Chicken feet - Ooh, i loved these coz they were so fat and tasty! Significantly fatter than the ones you eat elsewhere :)
Spare ribs - very tender :) another of my favourite dim sum dishes!

Beancurd skin (with stuff inside) - I forgot the name :(

Quite a few things inside! But again, it wasn't salty enough for me leh :S

Steamed chicken - BLAND again. argh. chicken was tender and soup was oily.
Ahhhh....red bean pancake! This was good!!
Crispy and hot! And compared to the one at Imperial Treasure, this is the non-oily version, which is better i guess, for the health-conscious Singaporeans.
Mango sago - Jonathan and Karen commented that the liquid was rather diluted.
Gui Lin Gao - err... Normal. :)
Mango Pudding - Doris ordered this and she said it was nice. She eats a lot of mango pudding, i observed. So if its nice, should be nice hahaa.
Mingju and Claudia. Looking extremely satisfied with the joke.
Mine! :D

Peek a boo!
My ORH NI! it was a huge portion. and my verdict? - It was good, one of the better ones I have tasted. Best I've tasted? ---> Lee Do Restaurant!
~
I have to apologize for this extremely late review. But now that I recall, i realise that the food was forgettable, and all I can remember, is that we were laughing a lot during this review session. Hahaha so in this case, it was more of 'fellowship' than 'feilouship'. Mingju joined us for the first time here and she blended right in.
Oh and after dinner, we even visited Carl's condo to check out its facilities. And we are going to have our 1st year anniversary BBQ there!
I mean, it's just amazing how friendships can be formed over FOOD.
Ok back to Swee Choon. I think it's a cool hangout place for supper in the middle of the night. Generally, the food isn't fantastic and prices are not the cheap range. The only advantage that Swee Choon has over other dim sum eateries is the opening hours, really. Oh, parking is a problem too. Claudia took some time waiting for a lot.
Another observation was that there were flies in the restaurant, sharing the air-con with us. Keep a look out, they may fall into the food..:)
Summary - if i am hungry at 1am and I am craving for dim sum, I will visit again :)

It was a Wednesday evening. Met Doris at 313 and we walked over to The Heeren together. Clarence and Jonathan were already there and we went in first. We had to pay the $35.07 before we could start eating, Seoul Garden style :) The cashiers were very smiley and patient.
Once we stepped into the restaurant, I was quite amazed at the size of it. And it was a bit dim too, except for the food counters. They only had round tables for max 6 persons. Any larger crowd will have to settle for joined rectangular tables. *shrugs*

Here are the round tables that could sit 6. I would imagine it will be quite cramped for 6. 4 is a better idea.

Raw section

Dessert section (shall elaborate on this particular dessert later :P)

Thanks to Doris who helped take the food sections' pictures!

Quite a tidy layout. I jus felt that the food sections were too bright and the surrounding areas too dim. Looked odd.

See??

Doesn't it look like a spacious food court with many stalls? lol.

grilled section.

Baby chairs section. They have this children's section where there is quite a large space with playmats and some wooden toys. Quite child-friendly :)

their teriyaki meats.
Comments - too oily, but the beef was good! very tender!~

the top flat piece with ham strips is their thin crust pizza. Those of us who tried it, liked it a lot. It was crispy, hot and light enough to go for more!
The cheese-baked scallop (on the left side under the pizza) was not very big, but it was fresh :)

Rosti! Comments - GOOD! Doris loved it and had 2 portions i believe haha. It was crispy and tasty, but a bit oily at the bottom.
And that's another better picture of the pizza :)

Fresh salmon belly - very fatty, smooth, sleek...*drools*
Lightly grilled Tuna - tasted quite fishy. I suspect it was the grilling that brought out the fishy taste.

Japanese style har gau heeehee. But--- not nice. too much skin and too little prawn. come to think of it, it now looks more like prawn chee cheong fan.

Meats on sticks! Thumbs up for the pork belly and pork liver! not very oily, and quite tender! The pork liver was slightly mushy and i loved it. But not Jonathan. Guess everyone has different preferences :)

BIG FAT OYSTERS. I had 2 and they were very fresh and 'slurp-able'. Doris had...countless oysters!

They were obviously not mine haha. Clarence's. hehe. They were... normal.

More sashimi!! Fresh and best --> unlimited!!
Oh, before i forget, Carl commented that the wasabi wasn't fresh. I went 'How did you know?'
He said it wasn't spicy enough, not enough 'kick', hence not fresh. Ahhhh.. something new for me!
The french bean salad was not very up to standard. The french beans were not salty enough and the bland sauce did not do much to help.

Stir-fried veg - normal. I find it too bland. Whats with being stingy with flavouring! :P

Omelette! My comment - FISHY. no idea why, but it tasted fishy. :S

A bit on dessert now!
The sesame cake is wonderful, i like it a lot! It's not too sweet also.
Pandan layer cake - Many of us gave a thumbs up!
Not in picture - Green tea ice cream - creamy and not too sweet. Nice :)

AHHH...this has to be my favorite!! Tofu Cheesecake! It's not the lemony tasting cheesecake. It's pure cheesecake with cheese taste :D I had at least 4 pieces :)

The prawn tempura was quite salty =.= There was also this oyster tempura on a shooter glass. Wiki tried it and puked it out. Not fresh *Eww*
~
DRINKS - They have a wide variety of drinks. They have at least 2 types of juices, variety of soft drinks, coffee, variety of teas.
From left: Jonathan, Carl, Thien, Wiki, myself and Doris :)
Clarence was the photographer in the earlier picture.
~
That night, i went with quite a full tummy, hence i wasn't very prepared for a big meal. I got full quickly and that was so sad. I missed gorging on the sashimi and oysters!!
We were there on a weekday night and it was nearly half-filled, much to my surprise. Service was good, but silent. They come silently, clear the dishes silently, and leave silently. I could hardly notice them. :)
Overall, it's a good place to dine at because it has not a bad variety and things are respectably fresh and tasty.
Bottomline - It's like a hotel continental buffet, Japanese style. and it's cheaper than a hotel buffet!
